2. The need for companies to have polite and professional virtual call center agents.
Telemarketing companies hire women and men as call center workers in the U.S. and beyond.
And, the only equipment needed is a home phone and computer to do the work.
Telemarketing companies make certain that your equipment is usable in their system.
Are you aware that virtual call centers are growing in popularity?
Today, there are well over 100,000 people earning money by making telemarketing calls from home in the United States.
And, it is estimated that by 2017, there will be well over 500,000 more individuals answering the call.
Virtual call centers allow large companies to save money by hiring people to work at home.
In addition, work from home agents reduce their turnover rate.
That alone makes it beneficial for companies to hire virtual customer service representatives.
Personally, I receive a lot of telemarketing calls.
So, from my interaction, virtual call center workers seem to enjoy their jobs!
One thing that annoys me is hearing background noise, particularly a rooster crowing in the background!
But, a 9 to 5 job cannot provide the convenience and flexibility of working from home.

Getting started as a virtual call center agent is fairly easy.

You need a computer with a high-speed Internet connection and a reliable landline phone.
You also need a “quiet” place to work where roosters are not crowing in the background. 🙂
In that case, I strongly suggest a headset with noise cancellation!
Beyond these things, there is nothing else that you need to be a successful virtual call center agent.
It is fairly easy to apply for a call center position if you prefer to take that route.
You must apply whether you choose to start your own virtual call center or not.
First, visit the company’s website and fill out an application.
If your application meets their standards, they will e-mail you to arrange a phone interview.
The phone interview is your chance to show them your assets as a virtual call center agent.
Second, schedule a phone interview for a time when your house is quiet.
Third, answer your phone in a professional manner.
Maintain a light and friendly speaking tone.
As a telemarketing agent, you are challenged to sound helpful and agreeable at all times.
Therefore, this is your chance to display your communication skills.
Finally, you may be required to pass a typing, writing and computer skills test on the company’s website.
This is used to test your ability to do the basic job functions.
In some cases, you must submit to a drug and background screening before you are hired.
Once you are hired, you must download software that analyze your computer.
This analysis tells you what to do to your computer to make it usable in their system.
Most of the time, you just update a few programs or perform some other simple instruction.
Typically, calls are scripted so you do not have to worry about what to say.
Even the most successful customer service representatives practice their script.
That way you sound more conversational and less like you are reading.
If you want to succeed in the long term, then it is worth the effort to make your script sound conversational.
Think about the worst experience you had calling a company’s customer service department; and do the opposite.
Working for a telemarketing company is not for everyone.
But, if you want a steady income or need extra money, then it makes perfect sense.
Whether starting your own virtual call center or working in one, you can earn the extra money you need.
