Podcasting is easier than you think to record “off the cuff” or “impromptu” recordings and you can make “easy” money doing it.
With portable recorders you can talk your self into money on your YouTube, Facebook, Periscope channels and website/blog.
Podcast-on-the-go because there is no need to write a script and edit!
Take it from me, that takes too much time and work!
RuralMoney.com’s mission is to show you the quickest way to income streams.
Since you are interested in this easy, simple and cheap way to make money talking, getting started requires a little equipment.
Basically, you already have the required equipment to start podcasting, your smartphone!
I can think of no better way to podcast on the move than with a portable recording device.
Be pleased to know that creating your own podcast is amazingly quick and easy using the specific portable recorders that I recommend.
In this article, I cover these podcasting tools and exactly what you need to create your own “mobile podcast.”
Portable Digital Recording Devices For Podcasting
Portable recording devices are laptops, mobile phones, microphones, Sony IC Recorder (ICD-UX71), and the Roland R-05.
Yes, your laptop can act as a recording device too!
It is easy to record a regular podcast using a laptop with its built in microphone.
For better results, it is necessary to have a simple mobile recording device.
Without a recorder to carry around, you are stuck at your computer/desk to podcast.
It’s worth spending some extra money on a quality, mobile recording device.
For a lower price device, you can use the Sony IC Recorder (ICD-UX71) shown in the photo.
It gives great quality sound for the price.
Also, it has a USB port to plug into your computer, and an external microphone.
If you decide to improve the sound quality, then plug in a better quality microphone.
For a higher price device with better quality sound, and more recording options, look at the Roland R-05 shown in the photo.
The Roland R-05 is about twice the price of the Sony, but it is a great recorder.
Using Your Mobile Phone For Podcasting
If you do not want to spend any money on podcasting, look at the equipment you already have.
Mobile phones are great recording devices.
They are built for recording and transmitting your voice.
Any Smartphone has voice recording capability like the iPhone or Galaxy.

They have great recording and editing features.
Not only that, email the file to yourself as a backup in case you lose your phone.
Even if you do not have a Smartphone, many older phones can act as a Dictaphone.
Browse through your phone menu to find an audio recording or Dictaphone function.
Podcasting Microphones
I recommend an external microphone if you have the money.
Even a low-cost microphone can increase the ease and quality of your recordings.
Both of the recorders above use external microphones and you will benefit from using one.
Plus, if you’re recording from a laptop, you will need an external microphone.
The microphones built into laptop PCs are very low quality and aren’t worth using.
For example, this is what I used to record my earlier YouTube videos.
You must have a range of equipment to do computer recording such as:
⦁ Standard Headset
⦁ Microphone: The type to use with Skype.
⦁ Phillips Headset
Get a more traditional microphone to use with your digital recorder.
The Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone is a reasonably low-cost microphone that plugs into any recorder with a small jack.
Oftentimes, it is your environment that determines the final recording quality.
Remember, you are podcasting impromptu and off the cuff so recordings do not have to be perfect, just audible!
Therefore, there is no need for podcasting software because you are not editing or worrying about mistakes!
In reality, people make mistakes when talking.
Keep your podcasting recordings casual when speaking to your audience.
Let them get used to your voice and the way you talk.
Later if you want to add music or sound effects to a podcast, stitch two separate audio files together.
Preferably the introduction and outro.
Or, just speak the introduction before each podcast episode.

Remember, you do not need audio editing software because you are podcasting on the fly!
There is no need to use Audacity or Garage Band – yuck!
Podcasting Your Recording
Podcasting is similar to writing articles and/or talking on your mobile phone.
Since you may not like writing, know your subject and talk about it.
This does not mean ramble on for five minutes about nothing.
Make mental notes of 4 or 5 bullet points and you will come across smooth on air!
The spontaneous and unplanned aspect of this approach makes your podcast sound personal and engaging.
If done well, it will sound great.
It takes a little practice, but you talk on your Smartphone all the time, right?
You can create a podcast very quickly using this method.
It is natural to stumble over words, but before you run out of things to say, or forget to cover everything, end the podcast.
People love the natural aspect of podcasting.

The reason why Twitter’s Periscope is or was so fascinating, it is unscripted, unedited and raw.
Your Podcasting Environment
The microphone in your recording device is the most important factor in how your recording sound, where you are recording.
Thinking about where to do your recordings is really important for good quality sound.
Remember, podcasting is all about people “hearing” what you have to say!
Here are a few background noises to listen out for when choosing where to do your recording:
⦁ Corridors with people walking by often
⦁ Windows near a busy road outside
⦁ Computers or other equipment running in the background
⦁ Large lights making a buzzing sound
⦁ Echoes can really reduce the quality of your recording
⦁ Record in a large room, not facing the wall
⦁ Podcast in a room with soft walls – wood or wallpaper
Here are a few things to think about when doing your recording:
⦁ Rustling of paper or jangling of keys by presenters or guests
⦁ Coughing, sniffing and heavy breathing
⦁ Fumbling the microphone, or moving the recorder.
The main concern is that any noise is very easily picked up by the microphone.
You want the environment you choose to be as quiet as possible.
In conclusion, you now know what it takes to do spontaneous podcasting on the go and make money talking with mobile recorders.
