After all, money is a big part of life, and even for the most grounded and Zen people, it can be confusing, stressful, and emotionally charged.

Because of this, the idea of staying mindful when dealing with money may seem impossible.

The truth is, though, that being mindful and being financially savvy go together very well. Read on to find out more.

Check In With Yourself

Check in with yourself before, during, and after buying something to see how you feel.

Be honest with yourself, but don’t judge yourself.

This will help you figure out what kinds of purchases make you feel the best.

Although this might sound as though we’re advocating spending all your money if it makes you feel good, that’s actually not the point we’re making.

The point is that very often, we’ll spend money on things that aren’t necessary and where the good feeling is only fleeting.

This can actually make us feel worse in the long term, and we’ll waste money at the same time.

If you want to spend money on something that will make you feel good (and you can afford it), consider investing or giving to a cause like the Dwoskin Family Foundation does.

In this way, you’ll feel positive for longer, and you won’t have any more clutter in your home, which can detract from the good feelings you have.

Have A Conversation About Money

Talking about money is taboo in many places and situations, so we don’t tend to do it.

We might suggest to someone else that money is tight or that we need to find some more, but we very rarely go into all the details.

This can be problematic.

If you sit down and have a real conversation about money, you will find that you can solve your problems much more easily.

It might just need a different perspective to look at the things you might do to improve your situation.

Having a direct and important conversation when you need to is a crucial part of being mindful.

It means you are taking control of the present and no longer living in the past or wishing for a better future. You’re taking action instead

Only Buy What You Need And Plan In Advance

Plan your purchases ahead of time, and try to do so when you’re calm and clear-headed.

Make a list of the things you want to buy in the next three months or even the next 12 months.

The next time you want to buy something, look back at this list to see if what you want to buy is on it.

If it is on the list, that’s a good indication that you do actually need whatever it is you’re buying.

If it’s not on the list, you’ll need to work out why.

Is it because you only just thought of it, for example?

If so, take some more time to consider it and buy something else (or nothing at all) instead.
