When the weather is good, I spend a lot of time at flea markets bargain hunting and looking for different items for my homestead.
Once upon a time, I was a flea market vendor where I set up products in a booth space, so I have some cool tips for you.
If you have “good stuff”, you won’t have to wait long to start selling it.
Buyers will help you unpack to get first dibs, because they see that your items are good pickins’.
Other sellers wait for buyers to walk around and see the new and used items for sale.
You never know what you will find at a flea market.
There are plenty of new and used items, home made crafts and clothing to choose from and sell on eBay.
It is best to have a plan for making a day of bargain hunting.
Most flea markets are outdoors, so use sunscreen and wear a hat.
Other markets are inside, so make certain to find out ahead of time.
You do not want to spend the day carrying around items you purchased.
Therefore, make certain to take along a shopping bag or cart with wheels.
There are some very inexpensive flea market carts that fold up and fit into the trunk of the car.
Also, make certain to wear good walking shoes too.
Your feet will thank you at the end of the day and you can shop until you drop!
A good tip to help if you do get tired walking is walk to the end of the vendors and work your way forward.
This way, you can put the heaviest items in your vehicle.
Keep in mind that most people start at the entrance of the flea market.
Therefore, if you start at the back, you will be able to see many items before too many other people do.
Most flea markets are open on weekends, but some are open weekdays.
The number of other people bargain hunting is generally lower during the week, but so is the number of vendors.
It is really a toss up about when is the best time of day to make a deal at a flea market.
But, it is perfectly acceptable to try to get the price down anytime.
By arriving early in the morning, you are more likely to take advantage of the selection before everyone else.
This is the best solution if there are particular items you are interested in finding.
Yet, many people claim they have a harder time getting the seller to negotiate prices early in the morning.
I believe in selling from the time you get there, so start negotiating with the first sale.
That way, by noon, you will have made a lot more money and have less stuff to take home.
By the end of the day, inexperienced vendors are anxious to lower prices, but it is too late.
There are many different types of shoppers at flea markets keen on finding bargains.
Even millionaires are looking for hidden treasures and are willing to pay the “asking price” to get what they want.
If you have a particular item in mind and can wait until the end of the day, then you will get a better price.
However, you also run the risk of someone else snatching it up, if it is a one-of-a-kind item.
There are different ways to negotiate the price of any item.
Ask the vendor what the lowest price is that they will take for it.
Also, offer to pay a certain price and see if they will accept it.
If you want to offer $10.00, then have the money in your hand for them to see.
When they see the money, it will often entice them to take it.
I have found, it is always worth my time to look around “quickly” while bargain hunting.
I may find the vendor in the next aisle has the same item for $10.00 less.
If I am going to go back to check on an item with a particular vendor, then I write down the location.
By the end of the day, it can be difficult to remember who is located where.
Also, the winter is a good time to go to flea markets because some sellers are nonstop.
